The woman suspected of carrying out a parcel bombing in Monaco, which injured a sanctioned Ukrainian millionaire and his family, has been found deceased in Ukraine, according to the State Security Service (SBU).
A cross-border manhunt was launched for Anastasiia Berezovska, a 39-year-old Ukrainian national believed to have fled Monaco after placing the explosive in an apartment building’s entrance hall on June 29.
Berezovska’s body was discovered with gunshot wounds to the head, the SBU reported.
Two individuals, including a current Ministry of Defence (MoD) officer, have been detained on suspicion of her murder.
Berezovska returned to Ukraine on July 1, the SBU stated, citing law enforcement sources. During her stay, she communicated with family members and two men—a former law enforcement official and a current MoD intelligence directorate officer.
Investigators suspect both men of aiding Berezovska’s activities, citing evidence of repeated financial transfers to her cryptocurrency and bank accounts.
The intelligence officer has confessed to participating in her murder, claiming it was carried out alongside another suspect, according to the SBU.
Searches at the former law enforcement officer’s residence uncovered a basement room configured to resemble a torture chamber, officials said.
The investigation remains active, with direct oversight from Oleg Ivashchenko, head of the MoD’s intelligence directorate.
