Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is set to headline a new action-drama film titled “Free Byrd,” portraying a Las Vegas motorcycle stuntman grappling with dementia. The project comes through Artists Equity, the production company founded by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, with Sing Sing’s Greg Kwedar attached as director.
According to Variety, the film’s official synopsis reveals Johnson’s character conceals his dementia diagnosis from loved ones, including his mechanic brother, while attempting one final death-defying motorcycle jump. The logline describes the story as one that “examines and confronts the mind’s vast mysteries and the beauty and power of asking for help before it’s too late.”
Beyond “Free Byrd,” Johnson has multiple high-profile projects in development, including a live-action adaptation of “Moana,” “Jumanji: Open World,” and “Lizard Music.”
