Scouting Report: Washington Receiver Dezmen Roebuck’s Evolution for USC Matchup

USC football will face Washington this season, and UW Huskies Wire has provided an in-depth look at sophomore receiver Dezmen Roebuck.

This season, Roebuck is transitioning from the Z position to the slot receiver role, a move that expands his role beyond his breakout freshman campaign. The former three-star recruit from Marana High School in Arizona made an immediate impact during fall camp before his freshman year, earning Freshman All-America honors with 42 receptions, 560 yards, and seven touchdowns—a program record for a rookie. With increased flexibility in the slot, Roebuck anticipates greater autonomy in finding spaces over the middle of the field.

“I feel like I definitely have more freedom to do what I need to do to get open,” Roebuck explained regarding his new position. “Outside, it was more technical, so you get a little more freedom.”

Roebuck’s advanced fundamentals shone throughout his freshman year, particularly his ability to identify defensive weaknesses and locate soft zones—skills that made him a trusted target for quarterback Demond Williams Jr.

“It’s a little bit of everything,” Roebuck said when describing his route-running versatility. “You’ve got to study daily with coaches and quarterbacks to build trust, but I also rely on my game awareness. I’ve been through a lot—this past year, playing early in multiple games, so I know where to position myself to create opportunities.”
