Indian equities opened with modest declines on Tuesday, pressured by sustained foreign institutional investor (FII) selling and rising geopolitical concerns tied to U.S.-Iran tensions. The SENSEX index dipped 88 points, or 0.1%, to 77,622, while the broader NIFTY 50 index fell 12 points to 24,226.
Stocks such as Adani Total Gas, Bajaj Auto, and Adani Energy Solutions saw slight gains ahead of their earnings announcements, while Paytm shares slipped despite posting a Q1 profit that exceeded market expectations.
Canara HSBC Life Insurance climbed 3.7% after reporting a 20% sequential rise in quarterly net profit. Sobha Limited advanced over 1% following a Q1 net profit surge to INR 51 crore, up from INR 14 crore in the previous year. Emcure Pharmaceuticals gained nearly 2% after its co-market product, Poviztra, secured regulatory approval for treating MASH.
