[Courtney LaPlante Halts Spiritbox Performance to Remove Aggressive Fan]

The Canadian metal band Spiritbox’s frontwoman, Courtney LaPlante, abruptly halted a concert to address a fan exhibiting aggressive behavior, resulting in the individual’s removal from the venue. The incident occurred during the group’s performance at the Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre in Phoenix, Arizona, on July 15, while opening for Evanescence and Nova Twins.

As the set approached its conclusion with the song “Soft Spine,” drummer Zev Rose alerted LaPlante to a crowd member allegedly causing harm to others. “Zev is taller than us and he’s up on the kit, and he sees some fucker right now,” LaPlante stated to the audience, pausing the show. “We’re not gonna play another song and this show is not gonna continue until we make sure everybody out there is safe.”

She urged attendees to identify the individual, saying, “I need you guys to be tattletales – who’s the fucking freak that’s hurting everybody? Point them out.” After fans directed attention to the aggressor, LaPlante added, “Well guess what, fucker? We all saw you, we know where you are and your ass is gonna get kicked the fuck out.”

LaPlante then approached the edge of the stage to check on an individual affected by the incident. “Hey, are you OK, bud?” she asked. “I know that you didn’t mean to draw attention – I’m sorry to draw attention to you, but that’s fucked up, OK?” Before security intervened, she emphasized the importance of mutual respect, stating, “This isn’t the damn gold medal karate match, OK? This is a rock ‘n’ roll show.”

She confirmed that security had located the individual and issued a warning: “Let that be a lesson to anybody out there who fucks around tonight. Because our security, they’re very nice and they love you guys, but they have let me know that if they have to, they will baptise a motherfucker and they will tune you up.”

LaPlante also reminded fans of their responsibility to prioritize safety: “If anybody falls down, what are you going to do? You’re going to pick them up, OK?”

Social media later featured accounts from attendees who claimed the individual had been physically assaulting people outside the designated mosh pit.

“Soft Spine,” from Spiritbox’s 2022 album *Tsunami Sea*, was lauded by *NME* as “awe-inspiring modern metal,” with the review praising the band’s inventive approach to metalcore. The track also earned the group a third Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance in 2026.

Spiritbox is currently touring North America alongside Evanescence and Nova Twins, with plans to launch a UK headline tour beginning September 12 at Glasgow’s SEC, followed by dates in Nottingham, Manchester, and Cardiff, concluding at London’s OVO Arena Wembley on September 19.

In November, the band will join Metallica for a two-night “No Repeat Weekend” at Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun Arena, as part of the metal legends’ residency.
