The Hundred men’s competition: Final, Lord’s
Trent Rockets 158-8 (100 balls): Donald top-scored with 38 off 19 and Noor Ahmad took 3-33.
Manchester Super Giants 162-5 (98 balls): Seifert top-scored with 72 off 38 balls while Amir took 3-29.
Manchester Super Giants secured a five-wicket victory.
Chasing 159, Super Giants required just three off the final nine balls after Mohammad Amir dismissed Heinrich Klaasen and Michael Bracewell, and Ben Sanderson bowled two dot deliveries to reduce the equation to three off three.
But Liam Dawson kept his composure to dispatch the winning runs with a six over mid-wicket, sealing victory with two balls remaining.
New Zealand batter Tim Seifert set the chase alight with an elegant 72 off 38 deliveries, adorned with seven sixes and four fours in a power-packed display.
Rockets had a chance to dismiss Seifert on 33, but Finn Allen’s spectacular relay attempt was ruled out after his foot touched the boundary rope, denying what would have been a strong contender for catch of the tournament.
The result meant the Rockets, who finished top of the table and earned a straight final berth after their Monday group game, fell short of becoming the first franchise to win both the men’s and women’s Hundred titles in the same edition.
Ben Duckett provided a solid start with 31, but the Super Giants seized control within four deliveries, as captain Sam Billings was run out for seven and Tim David fell to Noor Ahmad on the first ball he faced.
Aneurin Donald blazed 38 off 19, while Mitch Santner contributed 20 and Lewis Gregory added 32, propelling the Rockets to 158-8.
Though the total proved below par, Super Giants’ opener Seifert and Paul Walter — the Eliminator hero — added 66 off 31 balls for the first wicket, before Jos Buttler entertained the 27,416-strong crowd with three sixes in his 23 off 14.
The Old Trafford-based franchise, rebranded as the Super Giants this season after previously operating as the Originals, had finished as runners-up in two prior men’s finals, including a 2022 loss to Trent Rockets, which remains their only men’s Hundred title to date.
