Jacob Elordi playfully sidestepped inquiries regarding his potential audition for the iconic role of James Bond while attending the Leicester Square premiere of his latest film, The Dog Stars.
The search for the next cinematic 007 is officially underway following Amazon MGM’s announcement in May. As the industry looks to replace Daniel Craig, who stepped down after 2021’s No Time To Die, Wuthering Heights star Elordi has emerged as a prominent contender in the eyes of many observers.
The Australian actor was in London to promote his new film, directed by Ridley Scott and co-starring Josh Brolin and Margaret Qualley. When questioned by Variety about his participation in the ongoing UK auditions, Elordi smiled and humorously deflected, stating, “I’m here on holiday.”
The upcoming film, tentatively referred to as Bond 26, is set to be directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. While no official casting decisions or release dates have been confirmed, the gap between Bond films could soon set a record. The longest hiatus in the franchise’s history is currently six years and five months, spanning the period between Timothy Dalton’s Licence to Kill (1989) and Pierce Brosnan’s debut in GoldenEye (1995). If the new installment is released after February 2028, this record will be broken.
The new lead will become the seventh official actor to portray the legendary spy in the EON Productions franchise, following in the footsteps of Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig.
Recently, Amy Pascal, a producer on the project, shared insights regarding the timeline for an official announcement. Speaking to Deadline, she suggested that the end of the year is a likely timeframe for news to break. “We are being really, really methodical. Having worked with Barbara Broccoli at the studio, I mean, Daniel Craig is a hard act to follow. And it’s got to be something really different that is a stirring and exciting and different,” Pascal noted.
