Seeded seventh, Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece advanced past Jenson Brooksby 6–4, 7–6(6) in the opening round of the Winston‑Salem Open on Monday, North Carolina.
Tsitsipas generated seven aces and converted 37 of his 50 first‑serve points (74%). Brooksby saved three match points in the 10th game of the second set, forcing a tiebreak. After saving set point at 6‑5 on Tsitsipas’s serve, the former world No. 3 secured the next three points to close out the victory.
He is seeking his second title of the season after winning the ATP 250 event in Gstaad, Switzerland, in July.
The day also featured several lucky‑loser entries, after four players withdrew ahead of the U.S. Open tune‑up. India’s Dhakshineswar Suresh defeated Marcos Giron 6–3, 7–5, while Frenchman Hugo Grenier overcame Russian Roman Safiullin 7–6(6), 4–6, 6–3.
Additional winners were Martin Damm, Aleksandar Kovacevic, Benjamin Bonzi of France, Dutch qualifier Mees Rottgering, Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego, and Australians James Duckworth, Cruz Hewitt, and Adam Walton. The night’s final match saw 16th‑seeded German Daniel Altmaier face Argentina’s Francisco Comesana.
