Jack Grealish would prefer to return to Everton should he leave Manchester City before the transfer window closes, according to sources speaking to BBC Sport.
City are also considering signing Everton winger Iliman Ndiaye, who has rejected several contract extensions at Anfield.
The 30‑year‑old has featured as a substitute in City’s opening two matches of the season, but new manager Enzo Maresca remains open to allowing him to depart before Tuesday’s deadline.
Grealish spent last season on loan at Everton, scoring twice and providing six assists in 20 appearances before a season‑ending foot injury in January.
Everton chief executive Angus Kinnear recently told BBC Radio Merseyside that the club have kept in contact with the player.
Former club Aston Villa are still believed to be interested in re‑signing their ex‑captain, but City have heard no concrete offers so far this summer.
Maresca said on Thursday: “Jack is here. Until the day he is, it my duty to try and help him to give us the best. In the next four, five days, we will see what happens. I speak with Jack almost every day.”
City are also looking at Ndiaye, whose contract runs until 2029.
Saudi club Al‑Hilal had a strong interest in the Senegal international this summer, but he reportedly turned down the move.
Everton face no pressure to sell Ndiaye and would likely demand a fee around £70 m for any sale.
Meanwhile, newly promoted Coventry City are in talks to sign Manchester City defender Stephen Mfuni on a season‑long loan.
The 18‑year‑old made his first‑team debut in the FA Cup third round last season and later spent eight games on loan at Watford in the Championship.
