Surprise developments at Road America have reshaped the results of Sunday’s Indy NXT race. Race winner Alessandro de Tullio has been disqualified, along with his A.J. Foyt Racing teammate Nicholas Monteiro, who originally finished 15th.
IndyCar officials stated: “During post‑race inspection of cars No. 4 (Monteiro) and No. 14 (de Tullio), officials discovered that the tires used by Car 14 in Saturday’s qualifying session were installed on Car 4, and vice versa. Consequently, neither car started either race of the weekend double‑header on the same set of tires used in qualifying.”
Both entries violated Rule 15.1.3, which mandates that tires are assigned to a specific entrant and cannot be transferred or sold to another entrant.
They also breached Rule 15.1.12.2, which requires each entrant in a double‑header event to start one of the two races on the same set of tires used during qualifying.
These offenses constitute a Level 3 infraction, resulting in the disqualification of both cars and the forfeiture of driver and entrant points for Race 2.
Matteo Nannini and the No. 20 Cape Motorsports powered by ECR entry have been promoted to race winner, marking Nannini’s second career victory and his first of the 2026 season; his previous win came at IMS in 2023.
Tymek Kucharczyk in the No. 71 HMD Motorsports entry moves up to second place, his best result of the season, while championship leader Nikita Johnson’s No. 21 Cape Motorsports powered by ECR car advances to the final podium spot in third place.
