A Perfect Circle are preparing new music following their first UK tour in eight years and the release of the single ‘Starless’.
The band introduced the track last month as a surprise release, marking their first original single since ‘Kindred’ from their 2024 ‘Sessanta E.P.P.P.’ EP, which also included contributions from Primus and Puscifer.
Since then, they have begun their first UK and European tour dates since 2018, performing ‘Starless’ for the first time at London’s O2 Academy Brixton alongside fan favorites and older tracks.
Guitarist and founder Billy Howerdel addressed fan expectations regarding a new album during an interview with Minneapolis’s 93Xradio. He mentioned that music is “underway” and emphasized the challenges of creating new work while on tour, noting sleepless nights during the current tour.
“There’s more [music] in development. We’re actively working toward something, but I won’t set a date,” Howerdel stated. “Currently, we’re six shows into our tour, and this is the first day I’ve had proper rest. To focus on the new album, I need a few more days of downtime after the tour.”
Formed in 1999 by Howerdel and frontman Maynard James Keenan, the band has featured musicians such as Nine Inch Nails drummer Josh Freese (now on tour with them), Pixies bassist Paz Lenchantin, Smashing Pumpkins’ James Iha, and Queens Of The Stone Age’s Troy Van Leeuwen.
Howerdel praised Keenan’s work ethic and creative vision, noting that he feels “more creative” collaborating with Keenan than with other artists. He described Keenan as one of the “top three hardest-working people” he knows, emphasizing their shared dedication to executing musical ideas.
While A Perfect Circle has released the standalone single ‘Starless’ and contributed to the 2024 ‘Sessanta E.P.P.P.’ EP, their last full album was 2018’s ‘Eat The Elephant.’
The band will headline European festivals including Rock Werchter, NOS Alive, Rock AM Ring, and Mad Cool this summer. They will later join Puscifer for a South American, Australian, and Japanese tour in late 2024.
Maynard James Keenan will also tour the UK in November with Puscifer. Tickets for A Perfect Circle dates can be found [here], and Puscifer tickets are available [here].
