India’s T20I series against Ireland began with a 34‑run loss in Belfast on Friday, June 26. Chasing 183, the Indian side failed to forge strong partnerships and fell short, handing Ireland a memorable victory.

While the batting faltered, former opener Akash Chopra focused on the bowling, especially fast bowler Prasidh Krishna. The Gujarat Titans pacer gave away 57 runs in his four overs at an economy of 14.25, making him the most expensive bowler in the Indian attack.

Aakash Chopra flags concerns regarding Prasidh Krishna’s T20I performances

Chopra noted that, although Krishna can take wickets, his economy in T20 internationals remains a major concern. He has appeared in six matches, claiming eight wickets with an economy of 11.54. Such figures are difficult to overlook in the shortest format, where controlling the run rate is crucial.

“Krishna has played six T20Is and bowled 24 overs, taking eight wickets. He delivers four overs per match, which is ideal, but his economy of 11.5 runs per over is concerning. He has conceded 277 runs in those overs. In a 20‑over innings, that amount is excessive, prompting calls for alternative bowlers. While selecting Krishna is permissible, his limited game awareness was evident,” Chopra said.

Prasidh Aims to Rebound After Challenging Performance

Despite the criticism, Krishna has been in strong form in franchise cricket. He enjoyed a successful spell with Gujarat Titans, winning the Purple Cap in IPL 2025 with 25 wickets and adding 16 more in 12 matches during the 2026 season.

Shreyas Iyer’s side will hope for a much‑improved performance in the second T20I against Ireland, aiming to level the series, with Krishna expected to respond strongly after one of the toughest international T20 outings of his career.
