Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has issued a presidential decree scheduling legislative elections for November 28, 2026, according to the official WAFA news agency.
The decree calls on Palestinians in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip to participate in free, direct elections to select members of the Palestinian Legislative Council. The vote will be conducted under Decree-Law No. 1 of 2007 on general elections and its amendments.
This marks the first legislative election since January 2006. WAFA reported that the date for presidential elections, anticipated for the first quarter of 2027, will be announced in accordance with legal requirements.
Abbas has held office since January 2005. Although elected to a four-year term, he has remained in power as successive presidential and legislative elections were repeatedly postponed.
