Amritsar Soormas maintained their semi‑final aspirations in the Mankind Pharma Sher‑E‑Punjab T20 League, powered by Punjab Kings, by securing a four‑wicket win against Fazilka Falcons at the I.S. Bindra Stadium in Mohali.
The match highlighted a compelling duel between two of India’s promising young batters, as Abhishek Sharma outperformed Fazilka captain Shubman Gill, enabling Amritsar to chase down a target of 192.
Fazilka Falcons began cautiously, losing early wickets to fall 20/2, but regrouped to finish with 191/6 after 20 overs. Gill and Pranshu Pratap steadied the innings.
Gill once more led aggressively, scoring 67 runs off 35 balls, and partnered with Pranshu to add 72 runs for the third wicket, restoring their side’s momentum.
Pranshu added 40 off 33 balls, and Sanvir Singh accelerated the chase with a brisk 40 off 21 deliveries, enabling Fazilka to post a competitive total.
Amritsar’s Mayank Markande emerged as an economical bowler, conceding only 26 runs in his four overs without taking a wicket.
Amritsar’s chase got off to an explosive start thanks to Abhishek Sharma, whose blistering 49 off 15 balls tore apart the Fazilka bowling attack, and he and Sahaj Dhawan added a 79‑run opening partnership.
Although Sharma fell just shy of a half‑century, his rapid strike rate set an ideal platform for the chase. Dhawan sustained the momentum until the Soormas started losing wickets at regular intervals.
Amritsar later slipped to 152/5, keeping the chase finely balanced. Rahul Kumar, together with Reaven Preet Singh, steadied the required run rate.
Reaven’s dismissal for eight off four balls left Amritsar needing 16 runs to win. Rahul remained composed, scoring a decisive half‑century and finishing unbeaten on 53 off 35 balls.
His composed finish eliminated any further setbacks, allowing Amritsar Soormas to win by four wickets.
Although Gill delivered a larger individual score with his 67, Abhishek’s extraordinary strike rate and explosive powerplay innings proved decisive, giving Amritsar the advantage in the contest between the two Indian stars and preserving their campaign.
