Wai Ching Ho, the accomplished actress who portrayed the enigmatic Madame Gao across several Marvel series including Daredevil, Iron Fist, and The Defenders, has died at the age of 82.

Her passing was confirmed by former co-star Peter Shinkoda through social media, who paid tribute to the veteran performer’s profound influence on those who worked alongside her.

Peter Shinkoda, who shared scenes with Ho in Daredevil, expressed his deep admiration: “I won’t ever forget you. I learned every minute from you when we were together on and off set. I know wisdom – I’d hang on your every word. We will meet again, my friend. You were beautiful.”

Perry Yung, Ho’s co-star from High Resolution, also honored her memory, stating, “It’s a very emotional moment for all of us who knew Wai Ching Ho … She passed away peacefully after a stroke two days ago.”

Ho’s portrayal of Gao spanned multiple Marvel properties, appearing in six episodes across the first two seasons of Netflix’s Daredevil (2015-2016), nine episodes of Iron Fist (2017), and six episodes of The Defenders (2017). Beyond the Marvel universe, she delivered memorable performances in films such as Jennifer Lopez’s 2019 crime drama Hustlers and provided voice work for Disney’s animated feature Turning Red.

A Distinguished Four-Decade Career

Born on November 16, 1943, in Hong Kong, Wai Ching Ho built an extensive career encompassing nearly 70 roles over 43 years. Her television journey began in 1983 with the ABC daytime drama One Life to Live, where she portrayed Kim across seven episodes from 1983 to 1990. Her film debut came with a supporting role in Robin Williams’ 1990 comedy Cadillac Man, followed by appearances in productions including Soapdish, Keeping the Faith, and Premium Rush.

Ho made guest appearances on numerous acclaimed television series, including Law & Order: Criminal Intent, New Amsterdam, Flight of the Conchords, Orange is the New Black, and Only Murders in the Building. She also had a recurring role as Li-Wei in Awkwafina’s comedy series Awkwafina is Nora from Queens, appearing in five episodes across three seasons from 2020 to 2023.

Ho’s final screen credit was in the 2026 drama The Gardener, and she also lent her voice to the podcast series Aunties that same year.
