AEW Talent Locks In Contract Extension Amid Injury Layoff

An AEW competitor has secured a contract extension while currently sidelined with an injury, quashing recent rumors about her future. Anna Jay debuted in AEW in 2019 and signed her first deal the following year.

After returning to television in May, Jay has been absent from programming in recent weeks and previously expressed skepticism regarding reports about her contract situation.

During the AEW Redemption pre-show media call, Tony Khan confirmed the contract extension and provided an update on her condition:

“Anna is in very good standing with us. Anna’s out injured right now. I had been hoping to book Anna in recent weeks on shows and she has an injury, and last week she was going for an MRI.”

“Anna is somebody who is also in good standing with AEW and also has a lot of time left and has extended her contract with AEW. So, in her case also I see a lot of reporting about that is inaccurate. I have a lot of work, I don’t think that’s a secret, and I am not spending all my time myth-busting, and a lot of times these myths get carried away.”

“So Anna’s actually extended and is going to be staying in AEW, which is far to the contrary of what a lot of the wrestling media has reported, it probably speaks to the accuracy of a lot of these reports in pro wrestling.”

Anna Jay last appeared on the June 6 episode of AEW Collision, teaming with Tay Melo in a loss to Women’s World Tag Team Champions Divine Dominion (Lena Kross & Megan Bayne).

While Jay’s tenure is now secure, Khan confirmed he will be releasing Tay Melo from her contract.

Partners, No More

With Tay Melo’s release confirmed, the tag team known as Tayjay comes to an end, a partnership that dates back to July 2020. Melo is married in real life to Sammy Guevara, and Khan indicated that Guevara remains under contract despite his recent absence from Dynamite and Collision.

Anna Jay has been in a relationship with Jack Perry since 2021, and the former Jungle Boy recently signed a new deal this month. Melo is a former AAA World Mixed Tag Team Champion alongside Guevara, while Jay has yet to win a title in AEW, ROH, or any partner company, opening the door for a potential singles run.

Early signs of a singles direction for Jay could be drawn from her most recent match, a TBS Championship loss to Willow Nightingale on the May 2 episode of Collision.

For now, Jay will focus on recovering from her injury, with championship contention on the horizon.
