Airlink Postpones Stadium Flyover Following SACAA Review

The South African airline behind a daring aerial stunt last Saturday, which featured two planes flying in close formation low over a packed stadium, has cancelled a similar operation scheduled for this weekend. The country’s aviation regulator, SACAA, confirmed the cancellation.

The aerial display divided opinion, with some describing the maneuver as reckless, while others praised the precision and expertise demonstrated by the pilots.

SACAA stated that while it had previously approved the applications and safety measures for the flybys, it is now conducting a further investigation following media discussions.

Airlink has not yet commented on the reported cancellation of Saturday’s display, which was planned over a stadium in Soweto.

Footage from last weekend’s air show, held before a rugby match in Cape Town between South Africa and New Zealand, was shared globally.

According to flight tracking website Flightradar24, analysis showed that the lead aircraft passed within 50 feet (15 meters) of the stadium’s top.

From certain angles, the jets appeared very close to the roof of DHL Stadium as they roared overhead, trailed by colored flare smoke.
