Over six seasons at Sheffield United, Egan amassed 208 senior appearances, leading the club to promotion to the Premier League in both 2019 and 2023.
He was appointed club captain in the summer of 2023, though a severe Achilles injury limited him until late September, sidelining him for nearly ten months.
When his contract expired the following summer, the club chose not to renew, leaving Egan vulnerable as he worked to overcome the setback and continue his playing career.
A trial stint at Burnley and a move to West Ham drew attention from manager Scott Parker, who secured a one‑year deal for the experienced centre‑back aiming to a rapid return to the top flyer after previous season’s relegation.
Burnley surged in the Championship, and despite appearing only seven times while returning to full fitness, Egan switched focus to a relegation battle with Hull five months later.
He signed an 18‑month agreement and was promptly integrated into the side, scoring his first 90 minutes—after almost a year—when Hull suffered a 2‑0 defeat to Burnley in February.
As a native of County Kerry, Egan added ten further figures as Hull preserved its lead on goal difference on the final day.
Sergej Jakirovic arrived the following season, revitalising the club, with a fully fetted Egan emerging as a central figure in their success.
He featured in 48 matches, steering Hull through the playoffs before clinching promotion with a 2‑0 victory over Middlesborough in the decider.
Continuing his spell in the top flight this term, Egan opened the tally with a convincing 2‑0 win over Manchester United on its very first day.
Recording eighteen clearances against Manchester United, he subsequently helped the Tigers secure clean sheets against Coventry and Aston Villa.
Hull also achieved a point at home against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge before falling narrowly to Newcastle.
This marks Hull’s long‑awaitd return to the Premier League, a goal that both clubs are actively pursuing.
