Ashley Walters is set to star in Echoes, a short film written and directed by Alex Lanipekun, with Nicholas Pinnock serving as an executive producer. The ensemble also features Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones), Emmett J. Scanlan (MobLand), and Leo Gregory (Wild Bill), joining Walters, who recently garnered acclaim for Adolescence and Top Boy.
According to the synopsis, Echoes centers on Andre (Walters) and Robert (Gregory), two men whose lives collide unexpectedly as they grapple with the enduring shadows of their shared boarding school history and the resurgence of buried memories.
The London-set production is described as an exploration of male friendship, mental health, and childhood trauma. The mental health charity Mind is officially supporting the short, while fashion house Armani has come on board to provide bespoke costumes.
Pinnock executive produces alongside Lee Knight and James Dean, the duo behind the Oscar-nominated short A Friend of Dorothy, which starred Miriam Margolyes, Alistair Nwachukwu, and Stephen Fry. Francesca Dutton and Oliver Trevena also serve as executive producers.
Lanipekun, an actor known for roles in Domina, Homeland, and 24, wrote and directed Echoes and produces through Rebel Island, the banner he founded with Emmanuel. His previous short film Rand featured a cast including Aneurin Barnard, Emmanuel, Wunmi Mosaku, Pinnock, and Jonathan Pryce. He is currently developing further film and television projects.
The producing team includes BAFTA-nominated Stephanie Charmail, Emmanuel, Tommy Popps, and O. Valerie Nicholas. Grammy-winning producer and songwriter Al Shux composed the score.
