Alfred Anekeya Mang’ula, a seasoned professional in banking and insurance, has formally declared his intention to contest the Kakamega Senate seat in the 2027 General Election, positioning himself as a technocratic contender in the county’s upcoming political contest.
According to his campaign team, Mang’ula will conduct a series of consultative meetings across Kakamega County’s constituencies in the coming months. These discussions aim to refine his policy agenda so that it aligns with the constitutional mandate for senators in Kenya.
Existing Kakamega Senator Dr. Bonny Khalwale has signalled interest in the 2027 gubernatorial race, potentially creating a competitive succession contest for the senatorial seat.
Since the promulgation of Kenya’s Constitution in 2010, the nation adopted a devolved system that established 47 county governments, fundamentally reshaping public administration and resource allocation.
The Senate was created as a key institution to safeguard county interests at the national level. Senators represent counties, protect devolution, and oversee equitable distribution of national revenue.
They also provide oversight of county governments, review legislation affecting counties, and uphold accountability and efficiency in devolved governance.
Mr. Mang’ula’s declaration brings a technocratic voice to Kakamega’s evolving political landscape. In a statement shared on his Facebook page, he urged grassroots mobilisation and volunteer support.
“I am calling on friends to help spread and promote my aspirations to serve the people of Kakamega County as their fourth senator,” he said.
He has asked supporters to act as “activators” across polling stations in Kakamega County and to consider potential election agents ahead of the 2027 polls.
Widely respected for his innovative approach in banking and finance, Mang’ula brings a breadth of experience spanning leadership, governance, and financial management operations.
He has also served in several governance and advisory capacities, including membership on the Kakamega County Budget and Economic Forum and the Kakamega Sports Club, where he contributed to strategic oversight and institutional development.
Adding to his professional credentials, he is a certified professional mediator, positioning him as a skilled negotiator and facilitator of institutional dialogue.
Originating from Butere Sub‑County in Kakamega, Mang’ula holds a robust academic foundation in business and management, with a diploma in banking and finance, a Bachelor of Business Administration from Dublin Metropolitan University, and an MBA in Strategic Management from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.
Supporters portray him as a people‑centred leader committed to prudent stewardship of public resources and effective oversight of county operations. His campaign narrative prioritises accountability, development, and the strengthening of service delivery under devolved governance.
He sees himself as a candidate who can blend private‑sector discipline with public‑sector oversight, promising robust representation and legislation anchored in economic transformation for Kakamega residents.
As political alignments begin to coalesce ahead of the 2027 General Election, Kakamega County is poised for heightened political activity, particularly regarding leadership succession at both the senatorial and gubernatorial levels.
With established political figures and emerging technocrats expected to vie for influence, Mang’ula’s entry introduces a new dimension to the race – one that merges financial expertise with governance reform ambitions.
If his mobilisation efforts gain traction, analysts suggest the contest for the Kakamega Senate seat could evolve into a high‑stakes battle between established political heavyweights and reform‑oriented newcomers.
