TNA Hall of Famer Amazing Red has set his sights on a potential dream match with AJ Styles, suggesting the WWE Hall of Famer could eventually return to the ring if the timing aligns.
Styles officially retired from in-ring competition following his loss to Gunther at the 2026 WWE Royal Rumble, though he has not entirely closed the door on a comeback—particularly if it involves sharing the ring with his son, Avery Styles. Avery began his professional wrestling career in June 2026 and made his TNA in-ring debut in a multi-person match at Bound For Glory on October 11.
During an interview with Sports Matters TV, Amazing Red indicated that Styles’ ongoing involvement in his son’s wrestling journey could provide a pathway back to competition. Red believes a match could materialize, even if it requires going through the next generation to make it happen.
Amazing Red Discusses Potential AJ Styles Return to the Ring
Red noted that he has observed Styles remaining deeply engaged in his son’s development, including attending training sessions and visits to the wrestling dojo. The TNA veteran believes those familial ties could ultimately pull Styles back into the squared circle.
“I see what you see, where I see AJ training. See AJ going to the dojo. I see him following his son and making sure he’s doing here and there. And you can tell, you can tell. I don’t think you can leave wrestling,” Red said.
Red acknowledged that wrestlers sometimes need to step away for mental or physical reasons, but he maintains that professional wrestling’s pull makes permanent retirement difficult to sustain.
“I think there are moments where we have to step away, for sure, if it’s a mental break, physical break, but wrestling is such a hard thing to leave. It’s just one of those ex-girlfriends that just doesn’t leave you alone,” he added.
Red also suggested that Avery Styles could serve as a bridge between the two veterans, potentially creating an opportunity for another match.
“And I feel like if the timing is right for him, maybe I have to go through his son to get to him, you know? Who knows?” Red said.
The possibility has clearly crossed Red’s mind, and he admitted that the idea of facing Avery Styles for a championship could eventually lead to an unexpected encounter with the Phenomenal One.
“I could probably wrestle AJ Styles’ son at some point for the X-Division title. It’s just so crazy. So crazy,” Red said.
Red and Styles share a history dating back to their time in TNA, where both were instrumental in building the promotion’s X-Division legacy. Red recently returned to TNA at Bound For Glory 2026, where he captured the X-Division Championship following his induction into the company’s Hall of Fame.
