Quenton Nelson is intimately familiar with the challenge of blocking Jeffery Simmons. During their respective tenures with the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans, the two All-Pros clashed 13 times. When Nelson was traded to the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday, he initially believed those encounters were behind him.
That assumption proved short-lived. Mere hours after Nelson’s arrival in Seattle, Simmons was dealt to the Chicago Bears—Seattle’s opponent for Monday night’s season opener. The blockbuster moves instantly reignite one of the NFL’s most compelling interior line matchups.
Nelson acknowledges Simmons as one of the most formidable opponents of his career and is bracing for another fierce duel when the Bears travel to Lumen Field.
“He’s an amazing football player and competitor,” Nelson said. “I was like, ‘Man, can’t get away from this guy.’ It’ll be another battle against him this week.”
Monday night’s showdown features the league’s most anticipated offensive line versus defensive line confrontation of the season, pitting two perennial All-Pros against each other on new teams harboring Super Bowl ambitions.
