Amazon Cargo Plane Overruns Runway, Crashes at Miami International Airport

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

An Amazon cargo plane crashed in the United States after overrunning the runway while landing at Miami International Airport, disrupting operations at one of the nation’s busiest airports.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that a Boeing 767-300 aircraft overran the runway at 2:00 p.m. ET (6:00 p.m. GMT) upon arrival from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue stated that “multiple vehicles” were struck by the plane, which caught fire after the crash. The department is working to extinguish the blaze and assess the condition of those affected.

The number of crew members or passengers on board remains unclear, and no details on potential injuries or fatalities have been released.

An Amazon spokesperson confirmed the aircraft was operated by 21 Air and experienced “an incident” during its landing attempt.

“We’re working closely with local authorities and officials to understand exactly what happened,” said Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel. “Right now, our absolute priority is the safety, well-being, and care of everyone involved. We’re doing everything we can to support those affected.”

Videos circulating online show black smoke billowing from the scene near the runway. Early reports indicate the aircraft veered off the runway and crossed a road adjacent to the airport.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), which investigates major transportation accidents, confirmed it is aware of the crash and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced a full ground stop at Miami International Airport following the incident, warning travelers to expect “significant delays.”

The cause of the incident remains unknown. The FAA is investigating.
