BERLIN — An American military aircraft crashed at the U.S. air base in western Germany on Tuesday, resulting in injuries to the pilot, according to U.S. military officials.
In a statement, Spangdahlem Air Base reported that the pilot ejected from the plane and is currently receiving medical treatment. The base has not released additional details about the incident.
Local authorities in the German district where the base is located said that fire and emergency services responded to the scene. They added that they could not provide further information at this time.
Spangdahlem Air Base houses an F‑16 fighter jet squadron operating roughly 20 aircraft, the German news agency dpa reported.
The squadron, which supports U.S. Air Force and NATO operations worldwide, is a key component of the base. The installation employs approximately 5,000 military and civilian personnel, including their families, and also hires between 700 and 800 German staff.
The U.S. Air Force has maintained a presence at Spangdahlem since the mid‑1950s. Together with Ramstein Air Base near Kaiserslautern, it remains one of the most strategically important U.S. airfields in the region.
