Amir Jangoo’s Record Double Century Steers West Indies to Historic Test Performance

West Indies opener Amir Jangoo conveyed profound congratulations following his unprecedented 233-run innings across 373 deliveries during the inaugural Test match against Sri Lanka at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on June 27, 2026. The 28-year-old, participating in just his second Test appearance, seized a critical opportunity after Shai Hope’s last-minute unavailability and carved out an extraordinary milestone for the West Indies batting lineup.

This achievement marked the highest individual score by a West Indies batsman since Marlon Samuels’ 260 against Bangladesh in 2012. Moreover, Jangoo established a pivotal 401-run stand—the largest sixth-wicket partnership in Test cricket history—alongside captain Roston Chase, who himself contributed an impressive 194 runs.

My batting coach, Floyd Reifer, emphasized this point to me, and it proved effective in this instance,” he detailed.

“Our off-field camaraderie is strong, and while we recognized Chase’s recent struggles with the bat, we collectively believed in his capabilities. It’s rewarding to witness him shine in this capacity,” Jangoo added regarding his partnership with the skipper.

The partnership between Jangoo and Chase propelled the Windies to a formidable 626 for 9, following Sri Lanka’s first-innings total of 308. By the conclusion of Day 3, the hosted side had Sri Lanka pinned at 15 for 1 with a 303-run lead.
