During an exclusive conversation with BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg, newly appointed Prime Minister Andy Burnham firmly rejected speculation about an early general election, stating, “I’m going to rule it out… I don’t think people want it.”
Outlining his rationale, Burnham emphasized that most voters “chose a manifesto” during the previous election and committed to upholding this mandate with parliamentary backing.
The Prime Minister added, “My primary focus must be on restoring Britain’s functionality and directing national attention toward rebuilding the country.”
Burnham’s interview with Laura Kuenssberg will be broadcast across BBC News on Sunday, with the complete discussion airing on BBC One’s Panorama program Monday at 20:00 BST.
