Since requesting a trade earlier this offseason, Anthony Richardson’s future with the Indianapolis Colts has become a frequent subject of discussion, following remarks from assistant general manager Ed Dodds regarding the team’s quarterback plans.
Dodds remarked that the Colts intend to retain three quarterbacks, including the that can play designation, which implies both Richardson and Riley Leonard may earn backup roles behind Daniel Jones.
Following Saturday’s preseason matchup against the Falcons, Richardson commented on the possibility of remaining with the club for the regular season.
“I’m eager to helping the team succeed,” Richardson said on the team’s official site. “The organization believes I have an opportunity to make the roster, and I’m excited about that. My focus is on contributing, giving my best effort, and helping the team win.”
Leonard opened the game and completed 7 of 14 passes for 62 yards, driving the Colts to two field goals. Richardson, who had started the earlier preseason game, was 3 of 9 for 24 yards, added three rushing attempts for 15 yards, and was sacked twice in a 34‑6 defeat. Neither performance provided a strong case for the backup role, meaning the competition is expected to extend into the final preseason contest.
