Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei is poised for a high-profile White House dinner with President Donald Trump on Sunday, capping a weekend in which the AI executive became a prominent figure in both political and cultural conversations.
Axios first reported that Amodei would meet privately with Trump, and TechCrunch later confirmed the plans through a source familiar with them. The dinner marks the first one-on-one meeting between the two men.
Their discussions have come amid a growing public disagreement over the pace and direction of AI development. Amodei has called for a more cautious approach to advances in the technology, including a proposal to slow certain developments, while Trump has dismissed concerns over an AI backlash as a political fabrication and has pushed to rebrand the field as “super intelligence.”
Even before this week, relations between Anthropic and the Trump administration have been mixed. Earlier this year, the Pentagon labeled Anthropic a supply-chain risk after the company sought to place guardrails on how its technology could be used. Anthropic has contested the designation in court, though other officials in the administration have maintained a more supportive stance.
