Twenty-three athletes from seven nations competed in a unique marathon event at the geographic North Pole, marking what organizers described as the “world’s coolest marathon.” Participants arrived via the French polar research vessel Le Commandant Charcot, which transported them to the Arctic’s northernmost point.
Competitors navigated a 1,055-meter loop on shifting sea ice, clad in thermal clothing and life vests to meet safety protocols for the extreme environment. The race highlighted both physical endurance and adaptability in one of Earth’s most challenging locations.
Denmark’s Rikke Dam claimed victory in the women’s category with a time of 6 hours, 54 minutes, and 2 seconds, while China’s Wang Shengxian took the men’s title in 3 hours, 52 minutes, and 22 seconds.
