Argentine football clubs will honor Lionel Messi with a one‑minute round of applause during their upcoming fixtures after his retirement from national team duty.

Match officials will halt play for a minute at the 10‑minute point of each game in the forthcoming Clausura round and in other men’s and women’s leagues nationwide, as announced by the Argentine Football Association.

At 39, Messi announced on Monday that he will retire from international football after 21 years of service. He guided Argentina to the 2022 World Cup championship and also reached two other World Cup finals, amassing a record 207 appearances and 125 goals for his country.
