[Ariana Grande Secures Rapid Subpoena Power to Identify Hackers Behind Artistic Leaks] Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Mark H. Epstein decided on Wednesday that, lacking the ability to pinpoint the purported hacktakers, Grande is exempt from the mandatory ten‑day holding period required before serving notices in her newly filed invasion‑of‑privacy suit.
“The 20‑day waiting period will never run because plaintiff cannot — even with reasonable
diligence — [determine] the defendant’s identity without further discovery, and therefore will not be
able to serve defendants,” the judge wrote in his minute order obtained by Rolling Stone.
Her complaint alleges that the suspects compromised the personals digital assets and devices of her photography collaborators and producers through stolen credentials and phishing attacks, subsequently accessing her private creative material—unreleased master recordings, demo tracks, and raw session footage.
Grande and her counsel state that in 2023 alone, forty‑five unreleased songs under development were illicitly shared online, and since her 2011 debut, dozens of similar leaks have inflicted irreversible harm, according to the filings.
“The latest filing emphasizes that despite a multi‑year investigation comprising repeated preservation requests and takedowns on various platforms, the defendants remain opaque—moving across many pseudonymous profiles, spoofing domains, and employing peer‑to‑peer payment systems that hide subscriber details—so their true identities stay concealed,” her newest submission declares.
