Arizona has achieved its primary objective at the NCAA Championships and is now poised to accomplish another.
The Wildcats posted a 4‑under‑par 66 in the third round at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California, moving their tournament total to –8 through 54 holes. This places them in a tie for fourth and comfortably above the cut line that grants entry to the final round.
The top eight teams after Monday’s play will advance to match competition, a stage Arizona has not reached since the format debuted in 2019. Two years ago the Wildcats were in contention entering the final day but ultimately finished 15th.
Arizona currently leads ninth‑seed Oklahoma by eight strokes, with the Sooners having completed all three rounds at even par.
The best round for Arizona on Sunday was turned in by Tianyi Xiong, who recorded a 3‑under 69, while Zach Pollo carded a 1‑under 71; the remaining three golfers each shot par. This includes senior Filip Jakubcik, who remains at –10 for the championship and trails Oklahoma State’s Preston Stout by one stroke for the individual lead.
The individual champion will be decided following Monday’s fourth‑round stroke‑play competition.
