Fofana won’t be signed by Arsenal

Arsenal will not be signing Lyon forward Malick Fofana before the transfer window closes tonight.

Interest was shown earlier in the week, with reports indicating the Belgian international was eager to move to the league winners.

Nevertheless, the north London side have withdrawn from discussions. Their reluctance stems primarily from an unwillingness to meet the €35 million valuation set by the French club.

Furthermore, Arsenal favored a loan structure with a purchase option, and manager Mikel Arteta remains unconvinced by the 21-year-old’s abilities.

Consequently, the former Gent striker is no longer an Arsenal target, though he may still join a Premier League side, with Crystal Palace and Sunderland both in the running.

Both clubs are currently in talks with the player’s representatives, and the destination will likely be determined by which party is willing to offer the most favorable terms before the deadline.

Lyon are expected to finalize the sale before the 11 pm deadline, as the club urgently requires capital following the financial setback of failing to qualify for the Champions League.
