Arsenal and Manchester City continue to monitor Paris Saint‑Gerain defender Willian Pacho as both clubs evaluate potential reinforcements for their defensive lines.
The 24‑year‑old Ecuador international has become one of Europe’s top left‑footed centre‑backs since his move from Eintracht Frankfurt to PSG in 2024.
His blend of pace, physical strength and composure on the ball makes him an attractive target for sides that want to defend high and initiate attacks from the back.
However, a recent development at PSG has complicated any possible January transfer.
Arsenal and Manchester City scouts tracking Pacho
According to sources linked to the players’ representatives, as reported by CaughtOffside, both Arsenal and Manchester City have prepared detailed scouting reports on Pacho and observed him in PSG’s 2‑2 draw against Lille.
Liverpool and Real Madrid have previously kept tabs on the Ecuadorian, though no formal talks or offers have been made at this stage.
Arsenal reportedly view Pacho as an additional high‑quality left‑footed defensive option, whereas City believe his distribution and recovery pace would fit Enzo Maresca’s possession‑oriented approach.
Nevertheless, PSG have considerably bolstered their negotiating stance.
Reuters confirmed that Pacho has agreed to a new contract running through 2031, adding two years to his existing deal.
He has also started every Ligue 1 match for PSG this season, playing the full 90 minutes on each occasion.
January deal now looks extremely unlikely
Pacho would undoubtedly strengthen most Premier League defences, but Arsenal and City would face a significant challenge in persuading PSG to part with him.
The new contract alters the situation completely.
PSG are under no contractual pressure to negotiate, and Pacho remains a regular starter under Luis Enrique. Consequently, a January move would likely demand an exceptional offer and a clear desire from the player to depart.
For Arsenal, allocating substantial funds for an additional centre‑back may be hard to justify after bolstering the defence throughout the summer.
City might present a stronger tactical case, especially if Maresca seeks another elite left‑footed defender who can advance the ball effectively.
In reality, January is more likely to serve as a monitoring period than as a window for an imminent transfer.
