The Women’s Super League confirmed it has opened an investigation after Crystal Palace exceeded the allowed substitution windows in their victory over Everton.
A league statement noted that Palace ‘breached’ the regulations, which allow a maximum of three substitution opportunities per game.
Crystal Palace made four separate substitutions during the 62nd, 83rd, 90th and 97th minutes of their 1‑0 win on Sunday at Borough Sports Ground.
The league said the inquiry will involve both clubs and the refereeing body, Pro Ref.
WSL regulations do not set an automatic penalty; however, any breach may be forwarded to an independent tribunal capable of imposing sanctions that range from a warning or fine to a points deduction or other sporting sanction.
Both clubs have been contacted for comment.
