Arsenal have officially confirmed the transfer of defender Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa on a long-term contract.
The Gunners have been highly determined to secure a versatile centre-back following the injury sustained by William Saliba, and have eventually landed Konsa as their top defensive target for the window.
The 28-year-old was not registered in time for the Premier League opener against Coventry City, but he is set to be introduced to the fans at the Emirates Stadium. Konsa will begin training with his teammates this weekend and could feature in the upcoming match against his former club, Aston Villa.
In the meantime, Cristhian Mosquera will partner Gabriel Magalhaes in central defence, though Konsa’s arrival provides crucial squad depth. The former Brentford defender is highly versatile, capable of operating as a right-back as well, which will offer essential cover given Ben White’s recent injury struggles and Jurrien Timber’s ongoing groin issue.
