Arsenal are closely monitoring Como attacking midfielder Nico Paz as Mikel Arteta looks to add creative options to his squad for the long term. The 22-year-old Argentina international has emerged as one of Serie A’s most promising talents under Cesc Fàbregas, drawing interest from several top European clubs.
Arsenal are among the clubs tracking Paz, though Real Madrid maintain significant influence over his future.
Como manager Fàbregas has likened Paz to Lionel Messi, citing the level of attention he attracts from opponents.
Nico Paz: Arsenal’s Targeted Monitoring Continues
According to ElDesmarque, Arsenal have taken note of Paz and view him as a potential future signing.
Como secured his full rights permanently this summer for approximately €60 million following his impressive development in Italy.
However, Real Madrid safeguarded their interests by inserting a unilateral €80 million (£68.7 million) buy-back clause effective summer 2027.
This creates a significant obstacle for Arsenal. Even if the Gunners agree terms with Como, Madrid could activate the option and reclaim their former academy product at the Bernabéu.
Paz has stated that staying in Italy was his preferred choice this season, as he sought regular playing time rather than competing immediately with Madrid’s established midfield personnel.
AS reported that the Argentine opted to continue his development with Como despite Real Madrid’s desire to bring him back this summer.
Paz Would Bring a Different Dimension to Arsenal
Arsenal’s interest is well-founded.
Paz is technically adept, comfortable operating between the lines and capable of playing as a No. 10, central midfielder, or in wider attacking roles. That flexibility would strongly appeal to Arteta.
Arsenal already boast substantial midfield depth through Martin Ødegaard, Bruno Guimarães, Martín Zubimendi, and Mikel Merino, so this would not be a signing born of desperation.
Instead, Paz would provide another elite creative option with significant upside.
The obstacle remains Real Madrid.
The €80 million buy-back clause grants Madrid priority control, meaning Arsenal could invest months in pursuit only for Madrid to step in.
That should not deter Arsenal from monitoring Paz, but they require clarity before committing substantial resources.
