Arteta close to new Arsenal deal

Arsenal are close to finalising a new contract for manager Mikel Arteta, according to BBC Sport journalist Sami Mokbel.

The Gunners ended their 22-year wait to win the Premier League title last season and have begun their title defence with an impressive start.

They have collected 12 points from their opening four league matches and are among the leading contenders to retain the trophy.

Positive discussions have taken place privately over Arteta’s future, with an extension expected to be finalised in the near future.

The Spanish coach’s current deal expires in June 2027, but Arsenal are increasingly confident of securing his services beyond that date.

According to Mokbel, negotiations are nearing completion, and an official announcement could come soon.

Arsenal begin their Carabao Cup campaign in the third round on Tuesday night with a trip to Ipswich Town.

Arteta is expected to make several changes to his starting line-up for the fixture.
