Arsenal set to launch a winter bid for Atlético Madrid striker Julian Alvarez after missing out on him in the summer window.
The Argentine was Arsenal’s leading target to reinforce their forward line, but the Gunners were unable to secure his signature.
Alvarez had expressed a strong desire to join Barcelona, although Atlético refused to sell the player to a direct rival.
Barcelona have since moved on from the World Cup winner and are unlikely to revisit the situation next year.
This situation presents a fresh opportunity for Arsenal, who are preparing to make a renewed effort to bring the forward to the Premier League.
Alvarez remains open to a return to the Premier League and has indicated he does not want to continue at Atlético for an extended period.
He has featured mainly as a substitute in the current campaign.
Chelsea were also linked with the former Manchester City forward at one stage, but they are not prepared to meet a substantial transfer fee.
