Aston Villa have received a €22.5 million fine (£19.4 million) from UEFA for a significant breach of the squad‑cost rule for the 2025 season.

The club will also be barred from registering new players on its squad list for the upcoming Champions League season.

Most of the fine—€15 million (£12.9 million)—is suspended, contingent on Villa significantly reducing its squad‑cost ratio in 2026.

This constitutes a reinstatement of a previously suspended sanction imposed on the club last summer.

In July 2025, Villa were fined €11 million (£9.5 million), with an additional €15 million (£12.9 million) conditional on meeting compliance targets over a three‑year period.

Three additional Premier League clubs have also incurred financial penalties for breaching the squad‑cost rule.

Chelsea have been fined €3 million (£2.6 million), of which €1 million (£861,000) is suspended.

Nottingham Forest are required to pay €2.5 million (£2.2 million), while Newcastle United must pay €3 million (£2.6 million).

Newcastle United have also reached a settlement regarding an overspend relative to UEFA’s football earnings threshold, resulting in an additional fine of €10 million (£8.6 million); €7 million (£6 million) of this is suspended pending future compliance.
