PRAIA, Cape Verde — At least 25 people lost their lives in a traffic accident on Cape Verde, according to local media and officials on Sunday.
The crash took place on Saturday along the Campanas de Cima route, a mountainous stretch of Fogo Island, involving a passenger bus; several others were injured.
Cape Verde’s president, José Maria Pereira Neves, described the incident as “a great catastrophe” in a statement posted to his Facebook page.
