This morning, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf received the credentials of appointment from H.E. Khwauli Msiska, the newly accredited Ambassador of Malawi to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU.

He congratulated Ambassador Msiska on his appointment, commending his distinguished diplomatic career and expressing confidence that his extensive experience would advance the interests of both Malawi and the AU. He also highlighted Malawi’s longstanding commitment to the Union’s ideals and urged the ambassador to collaborate closely with fellow members of the Peace and Security Council in pursuing the Union’s continental priorities.

Ambassador Msiska thanked the Chairperson for the warm reception and conveyed a message of goodwill from President Arthur Peter Mutharika of Malawi.

Ambassador Msiska reaffirmed Malawi’s steadfast commitment to implementing Agenda 2063 and noted the country’s ratification of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), underscoring its active engagement in the Union’s affairs and programmes. He also expressed appreciation for the AU’s solidarity and support during last year’s severe drought, and called for greater collaboration, especially to strengthen Malawi’s health sector.

The Chairperson and Ambassador Msiska further discussed key continental peace and security developments and the ongoing institutional reforms of the African Union. They emphasized the importance of unity, collective responsibility, and strengthened cooperation among member states to address these strategic priorities and advance Africa’s shared aspirations.
