The crowd at today’s World Cup Final erupted in applause for Jennifer Hudson’s impressive rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” However, when Fox cut to a shot of President Donald Trump in his box, the cheers quickly turned to boos.
Fox lingered on the Trump shot for only a few seconds before switching to an aerial view, during which the boos can still be heard over the commentary.
After the match concluded, the president was met with further boos as he stepped onto the field to present the medals. The change in audience sentiment was audible in the background of the broadcast’s music and narration.
An ambient video and audio clip of the same moment, shared by Sports Illustrated, shows an even more pronounced outcry from the crowd.
Trump has faced similar reactions at previous sporting events, having been booed during Game 3 of last month’s NBA Finals and receiving a barrage of boos at the Super Bowl in 2025.
