May has been the moral compass and emotional anchor of Peter Parker’s life, a relationship explored in heartbreaking detail in recent issues, including a poignant conversation in issue #9 where she reaffirms Peter as her son, even with the reintroduction of her biological child, Cormac. The prospect of losing her in the main continuity represents a watershed moment for the character—a tragedy that would fundamentally alter the fabric of Spider-Man’s mythos.
