Highlights from the 2026 Gamescom Opening Night Live Showcase

The 2026 Gamescom Opening Night Live event delivered a slate of game announcements and updates. Here are the highlights.

The headline announcement is a substantial remaster of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The free upgrade launches on September 29, delivering visual, performance, and gameplay improvements. In addition, owners will receive the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine DLCs at no cost ahead of the forthcoming Songs of the Past expansion, slated for release next year.

During the showcase, a new trailer for the DLC revealed the upcoming region of Letten. The press release describes it as “an idyllic land steeped in rural tradition and folklore, where residents enjoy bountiful harvests and lavish festivals, yet a dark secret lies beneath the surface, challenging Geralt with never‑before‑seen enemies as he confronts a long‑dormant evil.”

Elsewhere, the viral hit Mewgenics—rated among the best‑reviewed titles of 2026—will arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on September 8.

We also received an update on Crimson Desert. The developers plan to address several issues in the game’s expansive, occasionally awkward campaign with a new “enhanced” patch launching today, August 26. The free update will introduce additional cutscenes and story moments to the main questline, plus voice‑over support in German, French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Japanese.

A new trailer for the Gears of War prequel E‑Day offered further insight into its campaign, which will depict the first Locust emergence on Sera and serve as an origin story for fan‑favorites Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago ahead of the October 6 release.

Angela Sant’Albano, also known as Grace Ashcroft from Resident Evil: Requiem, has been cast as the lead in the upcoming fantasy‑action title Tides of Annihilation, set in a dystopian rendition of London.

Additional trailers debuted for Silent Hill: Townfall (launching September 24, 2026), Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy (releasing August 27), Control Resonant (also set for September 24), and Sea of Remnants, slated for early 2027.

The developers of Genshin Impact, HoYoHerse, unveiled a first look at Nodus Fall, a mature fantasy RPG reminiscent of Elden Ring. While no release date has been announced, the game will support cooperative play for two adventurers.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Rayman, a new title titled Legends Retold will launch in October, featuring four musical stages—one inspired by the Macarena and another by MC Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This”.

Lego enthusiasts can anticipate Lego Skylines, a new city‑building game from the makers of the Cities: Skylines series. The official description notes: “In this cozy, customizable city‑builder, your decisions shape a living, breathing metropolis. Build expansively or focus on the finest details—no instructions, unlimited space, and one guiding principle: make it yours.” A release date has not yet been announced.

Finally, the spiritual successor to Guitar Hero, titled Stage Tour, is slated for release later this year and will feature a soundtrack of over 90 songs.
