Austin Theory Reflects on Failed Money in the Bank Cash-In, Says He Felt “Robbed” by Outcome]
Austin Theory recently discussed his memorable but unsuccessful Money in the Bank cash-in attempt during an appearance on Logan Paul’s ImPaulsive podcast. The former WWE star was asked about his controversial cash-in on Seth Rollins’ United States Championship at a 2022 event, which ultimately did not result in title victory.
Despite targeting what many considered a midcard championship rather than the world title, Theory remained focused on the storytelling aspect of the moment. “Yes, I’m gonna go run the play always if we really need it to be this way,” Theory said. “I felt like there could have been a moment; I knew I wasn’t gonna get the title off Roman, but even just building it to seem like ‘oh, here we go’. I can lose to him, whatever, but just give it more of a payoff.”
Theory also shared personal reflections about the moment, including his infamous exchange with Roman Reigns at Barclays Center where Reigns declared, “your daddy’s not here anymore.” He revealed that he has the damaged briefcase displayed in his office, noting, “It’s funny how I have it in my office hanging, and it’s real dented, and people see it and go ‘You murdered people with that huh?’ I’m like, ‘No, Brock Lesnar murdered me with it, and it sucked.'”
The incident occurred during Theory’s peak push under Vince McMahon’s leadership, when he was among WWE’s most promoted talents and even attended WrestleMania 38 with McMahon. Following McMahon’s initial retirement and Triple H’s takeover of creative, the storyline was ultimately abandoned. However, Theory did go on to capture the United States Championship at the 2022 Survivor Series PLE.
