Australia secured their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup knockout stages after a 0‑0 stalemate with Paraguay in Santa Clara, earning the second spot in Group D with four points.
The Socceroos, who opened the tournament with a victory over Turkey before dropping points to the United States, maintained composure throughout the match and were never seriously challenged. Their performance at Levi’s Stadium in northern California ensured a place in the round of 32.
This achievement marks only the third occasion that Australia has advanced beyond the group phase in its seven World Cup appearances.
Paraguay also secured a knockout berth, finishing as one of the eight best third‑placed teams in the group stage.
The United States had already clinched the top position in Group D, despite a 3‑2 loss to Turkey in Los Angeles earlier in the tournament.
