Dr. David Adler, former president of the Australian Jewish Association, stated that Australian antisemitism “has passed the point of no return,” prompting his relocation to Israel due to escalating discrimination. Adler highlighted a combination of economic decline, erosion of national identity, and rising left-wing activism as contributing factors, with the October 7 attacks catalyzing a surge in antisemitic incidents.
He noted that the failure of authorities to intervene during post-attack riots, including a lack of arrests despite extensive CCTV coverage, exacerbated public distrust. Adler warned of a widening divide, with threats against Jews increasing and anti-Israel sentiment becoming pervasive.
Australia passed point of no return, ‘all downhill’
Adler described the situation as “all downhill,” citing personal threats and a lack of effective action against extremism. He emphasized that anti-Jewish violence is primarily linked to Islamic extremism but criticized Australia’s insufficient response, including calls to expel radical preachers and close problematic mosques.
Comparing Australia to Israel, Adler noted the stark contrast in national pride and public optimism. He urged Australian Jews to evaluate their future based on current trends, predicting potential migration from the country.
