According to RTTNews, the Australian equity market pared its early advances during midday trading on Tuesday, while maintaining the upward momentum from the prior three sessions, buoyed by broadly positive signals from Wall Street overnight. The S&P/ASX 200 index rose toward the 8,000 level, driven by gains in financial, energy, and technology sectors.
The S&P/ASX 200 rose 40.40 points, or 0.51%, to 7,977.30, after briefly reaching 7,994.00. The All Ordinaries index climbed 42.40 points, or 0.52%, to 8,200.30, and Australian equities ended the previous session modestly higher.
Among the leading miners, BHP Group slipped 0.5%, Mineral Resources fell nearly 2%, and Fortescue Metals slipped about 1%, whereas Rio Tinto edged up 0.3%.
Oil‑related stocks were generally higher, with Beach Energy and Santos each advancing more than 1%, Woodside Energy gaining 0.4%, and Origin Energy slipping close to 1%.
Tech stocks showed mixed gains: Block, the owner of Afterpay, rose over 1%; Xero and WiseTech Global climbed nearly 2%; Appen fell more than 1%; and Zip slipped 0.3%.
Gold miners posted modest gains: Northern Star fell 0.5%, Newmont slipped almost 1%, Evolution Mining rose about 1%, Resolute Mining gained nearly 4%, and Gold Road Resources surged roughly 15% after turning down an unsolicited $3.3 billion offer from Gold Fields.
The big four banks saw modest advances, with Commonwealth Bank up almost 1% and ANZ, National Australia Bank, and Westpac each rising 0.1% to 0.4%.
In currency markets, the Australian dollar was at $0.629 on Tuesday.
