U.S. government employees face travel restrictions in the Mexican border city of Nogales, Sonora, officials reported.
The U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Mexico issued a warning on Saturday restricting official activity in Nogales, Sonora, citing an unspecified threat.
Due to threat information, U.S. government activities and travel to Nogales have been limited to essential movement during daylight hours only, the U.S. Consulate General in Nogales stated.

The statement added that they are alerting U.S. citizens to the threat and the change in posture.
Sonora’s State Security Board contacted U.S. consular officials following the alert but has not disclosed details of any specific threat. State authorities reported no concrete public risk, though they will continue preventive security operations in Nogales.
The alert also reminded Americans that the U.S. Travel Advisory rates Sonora as a Level 3 “Reconsider Travel” destination.
Residents and visitors are urged to remain vigilant, stay aware of their surroundings, seek shelter during incidents, inform friends and family of their safety, comply with Mexican law enforcement directives, and monitor local media for updates.

U.S. lawmakers have urged residents to heed the government’s security warnings for the region.
Rep. Andy Biggs, R‑ Ariz., urged on X: “For Americans in or near Nogales—or those with family or friends there—please follow the U.S. government’s guidance and warnings.”
He added, “We are praying for the safety of U.S. citizens and personnel who may be in harm’s way.”
